Berlin's Finest Suites

The hotel's own playground, art gallery, and designer shops sit on the ground floor, alongside the fireplace restaurant and bar that have made the Orania a Kreuzberg institution.

In Rafael Moneo's building on Potsdamer Platz, the 69 sqm Grand View Suite at the Grand Hyatt pairs a separate king-size bedroom with a spacious living area and marble bathroom — with views over the Tiergarten and the Philharmonie. Guests get exclusive access to the Grand Club, and the hotel's spa and pool sit just a few floors below the rooftops of the Kulturforum.

Suite.030 curates a portfolio of design penthouses across some of Berlin's most characterful neighbourhoods — from the Monbijou Penthouse on the Spree to multi-storey lofts in Friedrichshain.

With 1,125 rooms, the Estrel Berlin isn't just Germany's largest hotel — it's part of Europe's largest hotel, convention, and entertainment complex. Built in 1994 by Berlin developer Ekkehard Streletzki on the model of large American hotel complexes and family-owned to this day, the Neukölln property brings together four restaurants, three bars, and an extensive contemporary art collection under one roof.

Right on Gendarmenmarkt, arguably Berlin's most beautiful square, the Presidential Suite at the Hilton Berlin spans two floors and 120 sqm. The upper floor opens onto the square through French balconies and houses the bedroom, fitness room, and private sauna; downstairs holds the reception area, guest toilet, and kitchen for meetings or dinners.

Right next to the Europa-Center, Germany's first shopping mall built on the American model, the privately run Hotel Palace sits between the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Kurfürstendamm, and KaDeWe. The building on Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße was built in the late 19th century as officers' quarters, served as a field hospital during the First World War, and housed a KGB listening post during the Cold War. Today, 73 apartments are spread across the historic building; the Premier Suite offers a separate living room, an open rain shower, and a kitchenette, directly above the hotel's own restaurant, Luzii.

The Berlin Marriott Hotel stands on the former path of the Berlin Wall, between the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz. The hotel's single Capital Suite has three separate entrances, a bedroom with a walk-in closet, two bathrooms with a rain shower and whirlpool tub, and a living and dining area seating eight — plus access to the Executive Lounge above the ten-storey atrium.

Right on the Spree, where the Wall once divided East and West Berlin, designer Karim Rashid conceived the nhow Berlin as Europe's first music hotel: curvaceous furniture, saturated colours, and pop-art touches define every room. Professional recording studios and free in-room guitar service from the Gibson Generation Collection make the hotel, in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg neighbourhood, a fixture of Berlin's music scene.

Built in 1914 as a private palace for aristocrat Walter von Pannwitz in the late Baroque style, the Schlosshotel in Grunewald was fully restored in 1994 under the artistic direction of Karl Lagerfeld. Antique Belle Époque furniture, opulent bed linens, and marble bathrooms throughout still define one of the city's most unusual hotels, set away from the centre in one of Berlin's greenest districts.

The 70-metre sandstone building has defined the skyline of the rebuilt Potsdamer Platz since its 2004 opening, with a façade in 1920s Art Deco style. On the 11th floor, the roughly 204 sqm Ritz-Carlton Suite offers two bedrooms, two marble bathrooms with underfloor heating, a separate dressing room, and its own fitness area with panoramic views over Potsdamer Platz and the Tiergarten.

Opened in 1987 as the GDR's flagship Interhotel, the then Grand Hotel Berlin was a symbol of luxury in East Berlin even before the fall of the Wall — since 1997, the property on Friedrichstraße has operated as The Westin Grand Berlin. Depending on its position, the 55 sqm Junior Suite offers views of the Unter den Linden boulevard, the courtyard garden, or Friedrichstraße itself.

The three Grand Tower Suites sit exclusively on the upper floors, 23 and 25, of the 118-metre Zoofenster tower and offer particular privacy through dedicated suite elevators. Floor-to-ceiling, partly openable panoramic windows allow a 180-degree view over Berlin's City West or the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church — just a few minutes' walk from Zoologischer Garten station.
